H&W Rice Company is one of three companies under Haske & Williams Ltd – a fast-rising agribusiness conglomerate – formed out of the need to create quality local substitutes to imported rice products in Nigeria. We are a vertically integrated producer of high-quality whole grain parboiled rice and we work directly with our farm estates and network of outgrowers to ensure the finest, export-quality products for our local and international customers.
Rice is a widely consumed staple in Nigeria with aggregate demand in excess of 7million tonnes annually. Despite this, local production of the highly demanded commodity stands at 3.5million tonnes with a deficit of 4mn tonnes. While the global price of rice is increasing, the domestic price is plummeting due to illegal importation and there is a wide divergence between imported, rural, urban prices and brands.

Commissioned in November 2016 through the adoption of our win-win shared success philosophy, the Demsa Integrated Rice Production Project “DIRPP” is our pioneer industrial-scale agricultural project designed to revolutionise the rice production landscape in Nigeria.
Sited 40km from the Adamawa State capital, Yola, in the Demsa L.G.A, the project at full capacity will produce about 28,800 tonnes of top quality long grain parboiled rice and other derivatives for the Nigerian market. Working with the host community as development partners, the project has 3 major components;
Following the inception of the DIRPP, the following list of activities have either been completed or are ongoing to ensure maximum engagement and full-scale deployment to date:
• Detailed agronomic, hydrological and soil surveys
• Land acquisition for development of 20 Hectare rice processing complex
• Engineering & design of rice processing complex
• 25-year lease of 5,000 Hectare irrigated and mechanized paddy cultivation estate
• Issuance of EIA Certificate
• Detailed design for phase 1 of the irrigation scheme
• Procurement of equipment for installation of 8 ton per hour rice mill and construction of rice milling complex
• Execution of 50 Hectare proof of concept
• Issuance of Water Rights Certificate
• Engagement of local and international technical partners
• Completion of Market Research and Opportunity Study
